 Gemma Bulos www.asingledrop.org
Gemma comes to AGNG Productions as a global correspondent, sharing her experiences as well as her education on water, health and “what’s happenin’ ‘round the world” reports. She is currently in the Philippines launching the SafeWater for All People Project (which will expand to Africa in ’07).
As a pre-school teacher who was not on her regular 8:50 train to the WTC on 9/11, helpless, Gemma Bulos, the Million Voice Choir’s founder witnessed a global community united through tragedy. In response, she wrote “We Rise”, a rousing anthem that celebrates water as a metaphor for unity in action. The song was presented and performed at the United Nations’ as the new human world anthem in celebration of the International Day of Peace. Gemma began focusing on “We Rise” as a metaphor and, in learning more about freshwater issues she discovered the power of water in our fundamental human relations, our global interactions and in peacemaking. A world tour soon followed, as Gemma traveled the globe inviting people to sing “We Rise” in 100 cities in over 60 countries, which culminated in a wave of voices singing the song all over the world on International Peace Day, resulting in the Million Voice Choir. Gemma performs and speaks to a variety of groups, from schools to prisons, interfaith gatherings to the United Nations and a multitude of conferences such as Ecology of War and Peace, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the Internation Indigenous Youth Gathering. She recently received the CG Vibes Award from Cover Girl and Queen Latifah honoring women who contribute to the community through music. We are thrilled to have Gemma on board and sharing a slice of her life with AGNG on a weekly basis. Gemma and Leah met and worked together on a project in ’03 and continue to inspire each other on our missions of spreading peace, health and living well with the world! Only on a rare occasion (every phone call and most emails) do we discuss boys. |
